HEALING TOGETHER

WITH HORSES

Volunteer with us

If you’ve made it this far, you already understand what we’re building. So this page isn’t about explaining it all over again.
It’s about asking something simple: Do you want to be part of it?

Because this doesn’t come together without people. Not just volunteers in the traditional sense — but thoughtful, skilled, big-hearted humans who want to help bring something meaningful to life.

Where we are right now

This is a build-from-the-ground-up opportunity — guided by a clear vision and a well-thought-out plan. The foundation is in place. The direction is clear.

And every step forward is being taken with care — for the animals, the land, and the people this will serve.

As a volunteer, you will NOT be stepping into something uncertain. You’ll be stepping into something intentionally designed, with space to contribute your skills, your experience, and your perspective along the way.

What you’ll be part of

At its heart, this is a sanctuary-first model. We will be rescuing and providing safe, long-term sanctuary for horses, along with care for other domestic animals and, where possible, wildlife in need of rehabilitation and release.

Alongside that, we are building thoughtful, ethical programs that support people through connection — to animals, to nature, and to themselves.

This includes but it not limited to: equine-assisted therapy and learning, animal-assisted wellness programs, indigenous, land- and nature-based programming, education and community connection, community access to much needed veterinary care.

All grounded in respect — with an animal-first, consent-based approach to interaction.

All of this is supported by an off-grid, eco-conscious model — designed to live lightly on the land through sustainable practices and renewable energy, including wind and solar power.

Which volunteer position speaks to you?

If the following titles feel a little big or formal, please don’t let that stop you from reaching out.

Some of the most important work will be the hands-on kind — clearing land, building and fixing things, feeding animals, grooming, and yes, you guessed it… picking up poop.  We promise we’ll make it fun too.

If you’re someone who likes to get your hands dirty and be part of something real, you belong here.

With gratitude,

Vicky Hailey, founder, Maamawi-Noojimoiwewin Wellness Centre

“I’m not sure I’m qualified, but I care about this…”

YOU are included in who we are looking for.

A few roles require specific credentials.

MOST of the work that needs to be done will NOT require specific credentials. If you bring experience, that’s wonderful.

If you bring commitment, consistency, and a willingness to help and learn — that matters just as much.  Really, it matters even more.

Fill out the form below and tell us a little about yourself, your experience, (or lack of) and where you feel you might fit, and why you want to help.

And again – THANK YOU!

We invite you to be part of what happens next

If this resonates with you — if you believe in creating a place where horses are safe, where people can connect with horses and nature, and where something thoughtful and compassionate is possible — we invite you to be part of continuing to build Maamawi-Noojimoiwewin Centre.

Maamawi-Noojimoiwewin is Ojibwe and means “healing together”.

It speaks to the connection between people, horses, and the land — and the journey we all share.

The name was gifted by the mother and grandmother of Kara Perrault-Barry (Garden River First Nation), who created our logo.
